St George’s Cathedral, Southwark, formally the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St George, is the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Southwark, which covers the London boroughs south of the Thames, the county of Kent and the Medway Unitary Authority.

Music
St George's Cathedral has a well-established musical tradition, with a diversity of styles represented at the different Masses, ranging from congregational hymns and Mass settings at the 10am Family Mass sung by the Cathedral Consort youth choir, through plainsong and polyphony at the 12pm Solemn Mass sung by the Cathedral Choir of choristers and lay clerks. There is also a Junior Choir for younger children and the Cathedral runs the Southwark Singing Programme.

The Assumption of Our Lady

On Tuesday 15 August the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is a holy day of obligation, and so in addition to the usual 7.30am and 12.30pm Masses there will be a Solemn Mass at 6pm, at which Bishop Philip Moger will preside. Read more

To mark the 175th Anniversary of the opening of St George's in 1848 a walk has been organised for anyone who is interested in the history of the Cathedral and the surrounding area of Southwark Bankside, The walk will start at St George's Cathedral and end at St George the Martyr in Borough High Street.
